Without having looked at the new version's code yet (so this is a total shot in the dark and possibly not helpful at all), is the bottom panel a flexbox? If yes, it's possible that the huge margins between the items are caused by justify-content: space-between. (Obviously please disregard if it's not the case or if you already went down that road!)
