I suppose what I would have found satisfying is an ending more like that of Kirsteen, combining success and singlehood; but I think Lucilla's social ambitions exist too much in the context of the conventional social world that Kirsteen is more prepared to defy.
Alas! I am glad at least some of her other heroines realize themselves better lives.
