I had the same problem trying to locate E. Nesbit. (I still have very little idea of who she was reading or talking to.) In the case of Broster, I know she read Kipling, I just don't know if the timing for this particular story works! But I haven't seen that many horror stories from the period with a frame of real estate, and it struck me.
