I definitely appreciated getting this perspective on Jacobite history—it's making me wish there was a novel about the Jacobites just like Flight of the Heron but with an f/f relationship. Ha, the cryptography sounds interesting if doubtful! Craig does talk a bit about possible unreliability of sources and the reasons for it—poor transcription of names (by soldiers hearing them briefly and maybe not clearly, through a language barrier) is a point that comes up several times and can make it difficult to trace individuals across different sources.
