I'm a bit iffy about the Faderman because it's of that generation which was very 'sexology BAD' in an unnuanced way. A study I really, really like is Martha Vicinus, Intimate Friends Women Who Loved Women, 1778-1928 (2006), which is about the variety of erotic/romantic relationships between women in the Long Nineteenth Century. (It has all my favourites including the Sapphic Arty Ladies of Rome, and Minnie Benson!)
