I typed up a long list of books on life in the Georgian navy for the Discord, which promptly ate it, and I was too discouraged to do the whole thing again. But novelists do tend to go all-out on the awfulness of life at sea as opposed to the awfulness of life on land. Makes for better reading, not to mention lots of flogging scenes in films; and yet, it was quite easy to get rid of unpopular officers.
