May 16th - 930 words on a challenge fic. Only problem is, the challenge it's for has a 500-word limit, so I had to do some harsh editing to create a 500-word version. It's changed some aspects of the story, but I'll be posting the longer version to my journal once I've tidied it up and perhaps added a bit more.

Excellent stuff :D Staying under a maximum word limit is a real challenge when you've got more things to say in the story! I think posting both the 500-word version and the longer version is a good idea, and it'll make an interesting comparison.

I do that quite a lot with challenges, although I've been trying to stick with the 500-word limit recently on this one. This fic though, it was an idea that came to me Monday when I was washing the dishes, then the news challenge prompt was posted Tuesday and my fic idea seemed to fit. A bit of serendipity there, so I started expanding on the notes I'd jotted down. Sometimes plot bunnies just pop up out of nowhere...

Day 16: Alibi sencente on a drawer fic.
My morning/forenoon writing time was cut short by a check-up vet visit with the boys, my evening with baking cakes for Siljan's office after-birthday party tomorrow (his birthday was over a month ago *g*). One of the cakes completely lost its structual integrity after taking it out of the mould so I whipped up a tray of muffins instead which are now baking after which I'll fall into bed. ;op

Day 16: Another comment on AO3! Yesterday I finished going through a multi-chaptered fic that I especially enjoyed, leaving a comment on each chapter, and I started another one today. Going through them this way gives me so much better of an appreciation and understanding of the craft employed by each writer and the insights each of them provides into the characters and situations. Much more so than I was galloping through them to find out what happens next!

I know just what you mean. Reading each chapter closely in order to write chapter-by-chapter comments does let you really appreciate the details of a fic—it's very rewarding, and I'm sure the authors are delighted to get such thoughtful feedback too! Good stuff :D
