Date: Apr. 22nd, 2020 07:15 pm (UTC)I feel like it's much easier to sympathise with the supporters of one king against another (plausibly genuinely worse) king than in a king vs. republican conflict. But yeah, there is certainly something of the 'Wrong but Wromantic' monarchist glamour, despite the dodgy politics :) I'll have to see what I think of her other French Revolution books!
It's good to know that her themes of friendship and honour and loyalty are here in her first book too! :) And it's always enjoyable to read books that are as well-researched as hers, isn't it? Good luck with the read-through, it really sounds like a great idea! :D
It certainly is—I can see myself getting into so many new historical periods and settings because of this :D And thank you, I hope it will be!
