I do recommend it! It's definitely an odd mix, and the ideas and symbolism around Hilary and Julian's relationship are very strange (being vague so as not to be too spoilery...), but there is a lot of good stuff there.
The only Renault I've read is The Charioteer, and I remember that we are fellow Laurie/Andrew shippers. : )
