Merry Yuletide!
Dec. 25th, 2021 03:42 pmHappy Christmas, everyone! It's being a good Christmas on the whole, so far.
...and one good thing has been the two lovely gifts I've received for Yuletide. They are both for my Flight of the Heron worldbuilding request, but go in very different directions—I think they complement each other excellently, and highly recommend them both. :)
This one is 'FotH, but with magic', and shows Ewen and Keith's five meetings in a world where the British Army use iron to fight the earth magic of the Jacobite Highlanders. Absolutely brilliant integration of the magical worldbuilding with the canon story, and very lovely Ewen/Keith shippiness, too:
Blood and Iron (6668 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Jacobite Trilogy - D. K. Broster
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ewen Cameron/Keith Windham
Characters: Ewen Cameron, Keith Windham, Lachlan MacMartin
Additional Tags: AU, magical au, Jacobites, Worldbuilding, Slow Burn, Get Together, Fix-It
Summary:
And this one explores the perspective of a minor canon character, the dead woman Keith meets on his way over the Corryarrick Pass in Part III. A lovely quiet, thoughtful story, as well as being a really inventive angle to take on the canon:

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Jacobite Trilogy - D. K. Broster
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Characters: Keith Windham, Lachlan MacMartin
Summary:
Most of my exchange requests are random things I have fannish feelings about but am not actively in fandom for (if they even have one!), so it was slightly odd but very nice to get two fics in what's actually my main fandom. I may be wrong, of course, but I think that both my gifts are by authors who are not regular writers for Flight of the Heron—in which case, I'm very pleased to see more people writing for this lovely book, and bringing such good ideas and writing to the fandom :D (And there are another two FotH stories in the collection besides my gifts—even better...!)
And now to start reading round the rest of the collection...
