Oh, me too—I love Enid Blyton's girls' school stories, especially Bill and Clarissa in Malory Towers :D Ooh, and if you want to read more school stories, have another Hornung rec—Fathers of Men is his take on the genre and pretty good fun.

I've enjoyed some of Le Fanu's other gothic short stories, but nothing else is anywhere near Carmilla so far. Always a bit disappointing to realise you've read an author's best work first, but I suppose it's well-known for a reason!

Yeah, I know what you mean—I do find that the immediate emotions of reading a book get less strong with re-reading, but on the other hand I remember more about it, and really getting to know all the details of JSMN was something I wanted to do. And I don't think the magic has worn out really—I love it more than ever <3
