regshoe: Black silhouette of a raven in flight, wearing a Santa hat (santa hat)

Well, I am one very fortunate Yuletide participant this year...! I have received five (!) gift fics, covering all my requested fandoms between them, and they're all really, really good. I am utterly delighted, and I highly recommend them all. :)

This post-canon Travel Light fic, featuring Halla getting to know her new flying horse and the Valkyries, meeting the goddess Freyja and choosing where her next adventure will take her, is a perfect take on the canon and the characters' future, full of beautifully chosen details and great character moments:

To Fólkvangr (1784 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Travel Light - Naomi Mitchison
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Halla, Steinvor
Additional Tags: Post-Canon
Summary:

Halla drops her cloak and goes with the Valkyries, but what next?

I was surprised and very pleased to receive not just Quatrevingt-treize fic, but Quatrevingt-treize ghost fic! This story follows a ghostly Housarde as she stays with Michelle and helps her find her children. It has a really impressively Hugolian tone, and contains some intriguing ghost stuff and some very appropriate setting details:

Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Characters: Michelle Fléchard, Housarde, Tellmarch
Additional Tags: Ghosts
Summary:

The dead do have power to protect.

This is a gorgeously shippy Malory Towers story, with a clever premise that took me a while to figure out, some lovely descriptive detail and a great interpretation of the characters' future in a world that's partly the canon setting and partly something a bit stranger...

Where the Lovelight Gleams (3818 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1

Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Clarissa Carter/Wilhelmina "Bill" Robinson
Characters: Clarissa Carter, Wilhelmina "Bill" Robinson

Summary:

Clarissa put her hand close to Bill's. Not quite touching. Not quite holding hands. But close enough to let her pretend a little, and make her happy.

Another gorgeously shippy Malory Towers fic (I do love Bill/Clarissa, and it's such a treat to have so much lovely fic for them!), with a lovely atmosphere and some very inventive magical elements that fit brilliantly in with the canon setting and themes:

Thunder (1206 words) by Anonymous

Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Clarissa Carter/Wilhelmina "Bill" Robinson
Characters: Wilhelmina "Bill" Robinson, Clarissa Carter

And finally, in Madness this morning, this beautiful little fic crossing over Travel Light and Lolly Willowes in an absolutely perfect way:

Different Kinds of Freedom (647 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Travel Light - Naomi Mitchison, Lolly Willowes - Sylvia Townsend Warner
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Laura Willowes, Halla
Additional Tags: Crossover, Post-Canon
Summary:

Laura has a visitor at Great Mop.

I've made a start on reading round the rest of the collection—it looks like being a good year for both Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and Piranesi, and I've come across some real gems in smaller fandoms as well. Expect a general recs post later on this week!

And I've also received some lovely comments from my own recips—but more on what I wrote after author reveals. :)
