Happy 2021! All of D. K. Broster's solo-authored works* are now officially in the public domain in countries where the term of copyright is the author's life + 70 years or less—this includes most of Europe and various countries in other parts of the world (including, as far as I can see, all the countries of people currently in Flight of the Heron fandom :D).

By a neat coincidence, Flight of the Heron, along with everything Broster published before it, is also now in the public domain in the US.


Since I think this is a good opportunity to encourage more people to read these excellent books...

*I'm not sure about her co-authored works, as I haven't been able to find biographical information about either G. W. Taylor (co-wrote Chantemerle and The Vision Splendid) or G. Forester (co-wrote World Under Snow)—if they lived longer than 1950, those books would presumably still be in copyright.

You know, while I was putting the Brosterlist together, I also wondered about Forester and Taylor... Forester seems to be impossible to find anywhere, but I managed to find some biographical details for Taylor, poking around some archive records. Apparently, she was born in 1880 (well, or 1883, according to Gutenberg, but close enough) and died in 1948, so I think we're all clear!
