The history of the '45 does seem to have lent itself especially well to fictionalised accounts with a strong sense of narrative, from Lady Nairn's songs onwards, however messy and complicated the real history was. Though I like how Broster manages to use some of that mess of real history to add to the sense of doom in the story here!
