Glad you enjoyed the McLynn and the Converse! I still haven't read any of Scott's Jacobite novels, and I suppose I should at some point.

Re: the Cajuns, iirc they are descendants of a group of French settlers in what is now Canada, who were forcibly moved by British forces when they were taking Quebec from the French. This was in the Seven Years War, in the 1750s. I know this because in my first poly fic, I sent Keith to fight in that war. : )
