Kidnapped on the radio

Stumbled across while idly doing research for the website—a BBC Radio adaptation of Kidnapped from 2016 was repeated recently, and is now available to listen on BBC Sounds—but only for the next couple of weeks. So there you go, hurry if you'd like to give it a listen! I intend to do so, and I'll report back here on whether it's any good. :D

Cutting in case you don't want to be spoiled/haven't heard it yet

I liked how they cut basically all of the plot before the titular kidnapping down to ten minutes! I remember texting nenya first time I read it, "I'm 1/3rd in, and NO ONE has been kidnapped!" So that was good pacing wise. I feel like we didn't need quite so many "like a brother" moments in there, especially given there were only two in the book. But they did a great job of showing how completely into each other they were, and the actors have nice chemistry. Alas, no There Was Only One Coat, but we did get the screaming argument ending with Davie fainting, so there is that. JUSTICE FOR SHORT ALAN!

I've now listened to both episodes, and I agree with pretty much everything you've said. I was so pleased to get both the quarrel (which, in a short adaptation necessarily making a lot of cuts, seemed to be about the least-condensed part of the book—good priorities!) and short Alan :D And the whole thing really emphasised their friendship in a lovely way.
