regshoe: Alan and Davie at the end of NTS Kidnapped, standing hand in hand with Alan's arm round Davie (Happily ever after)

My amazing Kidnapped gift was, as I had suspected, by [personal profile] verecunda! Aww, thank you so much, it really is the most lovely story <3

And my Flight of the Heron Madness treat was by [personal profile] sanguinity, whose authorship I did not suspect (though it makes sense, thinking about it)! Thank you for such a beautiful birdy gift :)

I am also pleased to see that the other two guesses I made in my recs post were both correct.

As to what I wrote...

I was delighted to match to [personal profile] thrillingdetectivetales, who was also requesting NTS Kidnapped and who had a lot of AU-related ideas, particularly some kind of magical AU... I had some fun thinking over what sort of fantasy AU might suit both my strengths as a writer and the canon and characters; in the end I went back to my favourite kind of magic, did a little more research on Highland folklore and wrote this:

False Gold and True Silver; or, An Leannan Sìth (10931 words) by regshoe

Characters: David Balfour, Alan Breck Stewart, Original Characters

Summary:

Davie and Alan seek refuge from the pursuing redcoats in what proves to be a very strange place indeed.

I loved [personal profile] edwardianspinsteraunt's request for Howards End femslash, and especially the prompt of Margaret meeting Ruth's ghost at Howards End; I've long thought this book is really a ghost story and I couldn't resist the chance to make that a bit more literal...

Fragments of Her Mind (3691 words) by regshoe
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Howards End - E. M. Forster

Relationships: Margaret Schlegel/Ruth Wilcox
Characters: Margaret Schlegel, Ruth Wilcox
Additional Tags: Post-Canon, Ghosts, Minor Character Death, Yuletide Treat
Summary:

Afterwards, at Howards End, Margaret and Ruth get another chance.

And finally, [personal profile] luzula had mentioned a while ago her dislike for NTS!Alan's moustache; of course that immediately gave me the idea of writing a fic where he shaves it off, and it turned out there was a lot of story potential in thinking through what circumstances might lead him to do so. [personal profile] luzula did not actually request the fandom for Yuletide, and my original plan was to post as a non-exchange gift, but the way the timing ended up working out I thought it would be fun to stick it in Madness as a little extra :)

Oh, dear, did I have some horrible Americanism in there again? Or are you thinking of all my herons-the-birds-posting on tumblr?

"False Gold and True Silver" was the one story I didn't get to in the anon period (solely because of length -- I had a busy anon period!), but I am very much looking forward to it!

I find it interesting that people are spotting my work for my sense of humor now! That's never been a thing that people identified me for in previous fandoms. I wonder whether that's a function of the fandom itself somehow, or my writing evolving over time, or the contrasts with my fellow writers here? (I don't expect you to know! It's just a new thing that I've been puzzling over.)

I'm very sure I will!

Thank you again for the beautiful Howards End fic! I don't think I mentioned in my comment, but the title is also perfect and evocative <3 And congrats on the other two fics as well! It sounds like you had a great time writing them. xD
