Date: Sep. 22nd, 2024 06:36 pm (UTC)I will also join everyone else in being fascinated by the comment on the Alex/Sandy divide. I noticed this in The Charioteer, where you have Alec and Sandy, and perhaps by the 1940s they were beginning to see the shift towards variants of Alex becoming a boy’s name? But Sandy always stood out to me, because that’s a name that I think has gone the other way—I have only known female Sandys. As someone who has one of those types of nicknames (used to be more male, now more female), I love learning about others!
I gave Benlian a try after we talked about it, but that era of horror remains just not my thing. Definitely slashy, though, I get that. I think I wanted a bit more development, whereas it chose the, mm, obsession from early acquaintance route.
