30 day book meme: Day 2
Apr. 26th, 2019 05:55 pmThe ability to have multiple icons is definitely one of the best things about Dreamwidth. I've spent some happy and productive time today making myself some more out of random photos, botanical illustrations and sad Raffles references, and I look forward to finding relevant contexts in which to use them all.
Onto the meme...
Day 2. Best bargain.
I buy a lot of my books second-hand, many of them are good and I don't tend to remember exactly what I paid for them, so this one wasn't obvious. But I've decided to go with a copy of the works of Oscar Wilde, in a very fetching bright pink and purple colour scheme, that I got from a local charity shop a few years ago. It's not the complete works—it has what I think is all his fiction and poetry, but not the non-fiction and of course only the 1891 version of The Picture of Dorian Gray—but it's extensive enough, and it goes without saying that the plays and short stories are all great. The only disadvantage is the lack of any of the annotations, introductions etc. that you get with fancier editions of classics, but that only means it's a good complement to my up-to-date Penguin Classics copies of Dorian Gray and De Profundis. :D
