Some things

Despite things, I have had a reasonably good weekend. The Christmas cards are all written and sent. I made a cheesy garlic pasta bake for my tea today (made more or less like macaroni cheese but you add lots of garlic to the sauce, and it's the perfect comfort food), and roasted some carrot to go with it (I usually just eat carrots raw, and I don't like them boiled, but it turns out they're really nice roasted with oil and a little salt), which was very nice.

I watched 'Blackadder's Christmas Carol', my favourite classic Christmas film if it counts as one, this afternoon and it warmed my heart wonderfully.

The rest of the time I've been reading the latest Hornung, Denis Dent (1903), a stirring tale of adventure, romance and betrayal set during the gold rush of 1850s Australia. It's not especially substantial as Hornung novels go so far, and I don't think I'll have enough to say about it to write a separate post, but it's good fun.

Out of curiosity, I've just gone and had a look at my 'top songs of 2019' Spotify playlist. Three of the top five songs are by Steeleye Span, two of them are Jacobite songs and one is 'Take Me Home, Country Roads', so it's reassuring to know my music taste has been as consistently good as ever.
