Fic: 'The Spell and the Story' (Childe Rowland)

Once Upon a Fic author reveals have happened—here's what I wrote, for the fairytale/semi-ballad 'Childe Rowland'. I first came across this story via Alan Garner's excellent book Elidor, and it's a great weird, eerie tale of Elfland and fairy enchantment. This appears to be the first fic for it!

Awww, I loved this story! Its sense of magic was so wonderful and otherwordly, and also it made me think of the King's roads... so I guessed it was yours and now I'm feeling very smug! :D

So do I need to know the canon to read it? I have actually read Elidor, but it was ages ago and I don't remember it.

You don't need to know Elidor, which is just inspired by the same story the fic is based on (I said this was the first fic for it, but in fact I probably ought to have counted Elidor as one :P). Knowing Childe Rowland itself probably isn't essential but would certainly help—but it's quite short, and is available to read online in this collection!
