The discussion in the hut is such a great scene, the way Keith thinks Ewen is getting at him about High Bridge and Ewen's horror when he realises he's actually made Keith feel bad, it's such a great demonstration of Ewen's highly sensitive chivalry.

I can't remember where I read this now, but apparently wool has an exothermic reactions with water, so wringing the plaid out in water would actually make it warmer to sleep in - a wonderful little detail that Broster gets right there.

Regardless of whether people actually did it, I do wonder if Broster got that detail about wringing the plaid in water from Burt's letters? Someone tells him that anecdote as well, with pretty much the same reaction as Keith has...
