Welcome back to the read-along! This week's chapters are getting a bit more serious, historically and for our characters...

Oh, that's a good point! I do remember that when Britain switched from the old to the new calendar they did it by skipping days (this sticks in my head because I remember that if I'd been alive in 1752 I wouldn't have had a birthday!), which suggests they were ahead relative to the solar year to begin with—of course that would have some effect on the seasons.

Now wonder people were miffed! Eleven days is a lot of missed birthdays. Of course, that's nothing compared with what people born on Feb 29th have to put up with.

So if they were ahead relative to the solar year, that means it was high summer when the weather was so bad for Keith. Makes sense in a way - every August Bank Holiday is wet in my memory. Warm winds coming in over the Atlantic, and so on.
