Two Flight of the Heron fics!

luzula and I have both been working on Flight of the Heron AU fics in which Ewen dies at Carlisle, and Keith and Alison react to his death. We beta read each other's stories—your comments on my story, and the chance to read yours, have both been very helpful and interesting, so thank you very much <3

Here's my fic, which had its beginnings in various things and bits of inspiration—including discussions had during the read-along, especially some of sanguinity's comments about Keith and Alison; thinking about the canon ending and how some of the ideas in it could be reworked or commented on (I think this story is sort of a backwards version of the same thing I was doing in 'No Man Can Shun It'—it seems to be a good way to approach writing fic); and the poem, after which I've titled the story.

And here is luzula's fic, which I highly recommend :D It's completely different in themes and approach from mine, turning canon on its head in another way entirely, and it is a beautiful and heartbreaking portrayal of Keith and Ewen's love for each other and the grief and tragedy of Ewen's death, amongst several other things—including some great alternate history.
