As someone who lives on the other side of the Straits of Moyle, the weather in chapter 6 is abundantly explained by "Highlands". It sounds pretty much like the weather we had in late August 2021.

Cool! Er, does it feel weird with people being fannish about something which is set so close to where you live? I know if I met actual Scottish people, I would probably not tell them about my thing for Flight of the Heron unless I knew that they were fannish and thus would understand about it...

No, because it's long enough in the past that it feels distant. Also TFotH is so well researched and has sympathetic characters on both sides, so there's nothing irritatingly wrong with the source material.

Ah, I see! I have occasionally felt weird about seeing modern-day RPF about Swedish people--maybe because it's so uncommon, and felt surprising and close to home. Otherwise, there's not really a lot of fic set Sweden that I've come across.

One of my other main fandoms has some important parts set near where I grew up, and I find both the canon portrayal and other fans' interest in the place charming—although this is also both a long time in the past and well-researched! Not sure how I'd feel about modern-day fiction set somewhere I knew, although I don't read much modern stuff to begin with, that might feel slightly weird in itself.

I've experienced better weather in the Highlands in the dead of winter than in summer! Colder, but better. It's a North Atlantic thing...
