Walk with me like lovers do

NTS Kidnapped has the final performances of its tour today, in Brighton (in fact the last one is starting just about now), and I am indulging in being sentimental about it, listening to the songs and thinking about how much I love it.
I've been in a much more 'obsessive fannish love' state of mind about it on and off for the last few weeks than I was before I saw it. I think it's partly that I have bit of a habit of forgetting to have emotions about things in the moment and then picking them back up later (not that I did not have emotions in the actual moment about this; the walk back from the theatre along Princes Street at half-past ten in the evening is a time I won't forget in a hurry), partly that I just didn't want to build up too much anticipation for something that might still have turned out to be a disappointment... and then also that I think part of me couldn't quite believe they were really, actually going there until I saw it happen. I'm still kind of stunned. Anyway, I've been obsessively collecting everything I can find about the play, so have some stuff:
Funniest picture of the sailors (and Alan and Davie). I do love their costumes.
'Cutest picture' is a tough competition, but this one comes close.
Ryan J MacKay and Malcolm Cumming posing with the book and some props in Glasgow; also very cute.
This picture is new today and I cannot stop going 'awww!' at it.
Best description of Alan/Davie from a review: 'the start of something beautiful builds between the ‘invincible’ soldier and sweet little Davie from the Borders.'
Isobel McArthur on a BBC radio podcast talking about the play and the book as part of a discussion also covering the history of tartan and contemporary Highland literature. Everything she says about Kidnapped is just so right, wise and admirable. <3 (I'm not sure whether one can listen or download from outside the UK; if you can't get it to work and would like to listen, message me, I have a copy downloaded).
It's been nominated for some awards! Thoroughly deserved.
I'm so glad this play was made. May it have many more productions in future, and good-bye to this one. Right, I've got a few more songs to go and listen to and remember... :)

Date: May. 20th, 2023 07:51 pm (UTC)The reason I'm not watching the play right away is because I'm at the summer place with my mom; I wanted to be alone while watching. Also, downloading the podcast file worked fine!

Date: May. 21st, 2023 03:20 pm (UTC)That's fair! I don't think it's actually on the website yet, in fact (it's still listed as 'Coming Soon'), and in any case there's no problem with a little delay. Good that you could download the podcast, and I hope you enjoy the play when you do watch it <3
